Singer Fantasia to perform at Fort Hamilton Independence Day concert

Grammy Award-winning Fantasia and other performers will hit the stage for the Fort Hamilton Independence Day Salute to the Troops on Friday, July 1.

The concert, which will be held at Fort Hamilton’s Sgt. Deon Taylor Field, honors troops, service members and their families for the sacrifices they have made for their country. It is open to the public.

This year, the celebration — which is sponsored by Fort Hamilton’s Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation and Mission One Voice –will be hosted by actress Shar Jackson.

“Independence Day is a holiday that allows us to give back to those who have served and sacrificed defending our nation. All are welcome to join us as we celebrate America’s birthday,” said Bob Vogt, director of Fort Hamilton’s Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation.

Along with performances from artists Titanium, Zavvezo and season 13 American Idol winner Stephanie Petronelli, there will be food, activities and a fireworks display to close the concert.

“It is an honor and a pleasure to continue our mission to raise awareness to the issues faced by those who make such a commitment to our country,” said Alycia Lerer, founder of Mission One Voice.

The free event will open at 5 p.m, with musical entertainment following at 6 p.m. To RSVP for the event, go to http://hamilton.armymwr.com/or www.MissionOneVoice.org.
