62nd Precinct Police Beat: Perp steals $22,000 and jewelry from Bath Beach home

Between Friday, July 1 and Tuesday, July 5, the 62nd Precinct received reports of two burglaries, one robbery, two grand larcenies and one felony assault. The 62nd Precinct serves Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Gravesend.

BREAK IN AND BANKIN’

A 37-year old man told police that an unknown perp broke into his home located near 20th and Cropsey Avenues on Friday, July 1 at around 1:00 p.m. The perp broke in through the front door, according to cops, and stole $22,000 and jewelry before fleeing.

FOLLOWED AND CAUGHT

A 36-year old man reported to police on Tuesday, July 5 that a 50-year old man somehow entered his West 10th Street apartment building at around 3:30 p.m. and attempted to break in by using a credit card to open the door. The victim witnessed this and followed the perp down to Avenue U and Van Sicklen Street where he was apprehended and found in possession of various burglary tools.

EX-WIFE CAUSES STRIFE

A 44-year old man told cops that on Monday, July 4, his ex-wife and her brother were at his apartment near 85th Street and 24th Avenue and held him down while repeatedly punching him in the face, causing cuts to his nose. They proceeded to steal $800 and one Bank of America debit card from the 44-year-old’s back pocket. The victim received medical attention at the 62nd precinct.

MAXXED OUT

According to police, a 52-year-old man living near 83rd Street and 21st Avenue had his credit card information stolen and used to open up a TJ MAXX credit card on Saturday, July 2. The unknown perp racked up $1,094 worth of charges at the department store.

CYCLEPATH

A 58-year-old Asian woman had her purse snatched off of her shoulder while riding her bicycle near 65th Street and 16th Avenue on Saturday, July 2 at around 6 p.m. According to cops, the perp, described as an 18-year-old white man, fled westbound on 65th Street after the incident and made off with $200 cash and a cellphone which were inside the purse.

NOT-SO-FRIENDLY BANTER

A 17-year-old teen was taken to Maimonides Medical Center on Sunday, July 3 after his friend, 15, hit him in the head with a blunt object at a Kings Highway restaurant at around 9:52 p.m. According to police, the assault stemmed from a heated, verbal argument between the two. The 17-year-old suffered a cut to his left eye and complained of pain to the head and neck.
