68th Precinct Police Beat: Man assaulted, robbed by three perps while in car

THREE AGAINST ONE

A 21-year-old man was in his car on Monday, July 11 at around 4:20 a.m. when he was attacked and robbed of over $300. The victim was sitting in the driver’s side of his vehicle at 62nd Street and 14th Avenue when a man approached him and asked for a cigarette. When the man said no, the perp asked for the keys to his car. The victim once again said no, resulting in the perp punching him in the face through the window.

When the victim got out of the vehicle to defend himself, two other thugs appeared from the rear of the car and started punching him as well. During the altercation, one of the perps reached into the man’s front right pocket and stole $300, then fled westbound to 63rd Street heading towards 13th Avenue.

THE GREAT ESCAPE

A 42-year-old woman left her apartment at Eighth Avenue and 72nd Street on Thursday, July 14 at approximately 10:30 a.m. Although she claims she locked her front door before leaving, she doesn’t recall closing her window leading to the fire escape. When she returned at around 6 p.m., she realized a burglar had found a way into the apartment, ransacked her bedroom, and stole nearly $50,000 worth of jewelry, including three diamond rings worth around $40,000.

DISAPPEARING ACT

On Friday, July 15 at around 8 p.m., a 40-year-old man parked his car near 95th Street and Marine Avenue. When he returned to the vehicle the following morning at 10 a.m., he realized a crook had gotten in and stolen around $2,600 of property. There were no signs of a break in as both the doors and windows were locked and undamaged.

JEWELRY HEIST

A 65-year-old man was the victim of a burglary that resulted in over $8,000 of stolen property. On Saturday, July 16, some time between 7:25 p.m. and 11:15 p.m., a burglar broke into the victim’s apartment through the rear bedroom by pushing in the air conditioning unit and cutting a window screen. Once inside, the unknown perp stole three diamond bracelets worth around $6,000, and four rings.

SEEK AND DESTROY

A crook broke into a Bay Ridge apartment and stole $300 from a 49-year-old woman, on Monday, July 11, some time between 12:00 p.m. and 6 p.m. Cops say the burglar entered through the front door and trashed the apartment before taking the cash.

The 68th Precinct serves Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Fort Hamilton.
