68th Precinct Police Beat: Man beaten, robbed at Leif Erickson Park

Between Friday, July 1 and Sunday, July 3, the 68th Precinct received reports of two robberies, one grand larceny, and one burglary. The 68th Precinct serves Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Fort Hamilton.

NOT A WALK IN THE PARK

A 35-year-old man was riding his bike on the northeast corner of Eighth Avenue and 66th Street of Leif Erickson Park on Saturday, June 2 at around 7 p.m. when a white man — described by the victim as being in his mid-twenties — approached him and punched him five times before fleeing the scene with the bike and $100. The victim didn’t sustain serious injuries and no arrests have been made.

LOST THEN FOUND

Cops say that, after parking his jeep on 81st Street and Third Avenue on Sunday, July 3, a 47-year-old man was the victim of a robbery. At around 9:25 p.m., two crooks allegedly walked from behind the victim, placed an unknown object in his back, and said, “Don’t look back or I’ll put one in you. I just want your car.” The perps drove away with the vehicle and fled southbound on Third Avenue. Although no arrests were made, the jeep was found near 79th Street and Third avenue unoccupied.

DON’T TURN AROUND

A thief stole a 21-year-old woman’s bag while at a fast food restaurant on 84th Street and Fifth Avenue. On Friday, July 1 at around 3:30 a.m., the woman states that she turned her back for five minutes when the perp stole the purse containing both her debit card and passport. Before she could cancel her card, $64 worth of unauthorized charges were made.

ANOTHER DOOR OPENS

An unknown burglar broke into a Bay Ridge apartment and stole approximately $20,000 worth of money and jewelry. The 28-year-old male tenant left the apartment on Tuesday, June 28 but, while gone, the perp broke in the locked room, nabbed around $12,000 and a Tiffany diamond ring worth $8,000. When he returned on Tuesday, July 2 at around 1:10 a.m., he found the front door opened and discovered that property was missing.
