72nd Precinct Police Beat: Man stabbed near 53rd Street station

The 72nd Precinct serves Sunset Park, Greenwood Heights and South Park Slope

STABBING NEAR STATION

Asking a stranger for a smoke landed a 39-year-old man in the hospital on Friday, July 22 at around 11:40 p.m. The victim was walking along Fourth Avenue at 53rd Street on his way to the subway when he asked a man, whom he described  as a male white Hispanic in his late thirties, to sell him a cigarette. The stranger responded by punching the man in the face and then stabbing him in the back with a knife. The attacker fled on foot and the victim was transferred to NYU Lutheran Medical Center.

UNHAPPY BIRTHDAY

A birthday celebration ended unhappily on Saturday, July 23 for a 28-year-old man, who boarded a southbound D-train at the 34th Street station in Manhattan around 6 a.m. He fell asleep and when woke up at the 36th Street station in Sunset Park, he noticed that his backpack was on the floor and a thief had stolen everything inside, including a Macbook Pro. The missing items are worth approximately $1,621.

COWARDLY ROBBERY

A 63-year-old man was assaulted on Saturday, July 23 at around 2:13 a.m. while walking at 44th Street and Eighth Avenue. Cops say two thieves approached him and one of them, whom he described as a 38-year-old Asian man, showed him a gun and demanded his money. The crooks punched him in the face. No property was taken from the victim as the perps fled on foot towards Seventh Avenue and 44th Street.

ONE DOWN

One of three perps was arrested by police for robbing a 36-year-old man at Sixth Avenue and 48th Street on Wednesday, July 20 at around 2:10 a.m. According to the police, three men approached the victim from behind while he was walking and threw him to the floor, punching and kicking him before stealing his cell phone and credit cards. Later, cops caught up with one perp, an 18-year-old man, who had the stolen property and was arrested. The other two perps remain at large.

RUDE AWAKENING

A female was sleeping in her apartment on Fifth Avenue and 48th Street on Saturday, July 23 at around 12:15 a.m. when her debit card was stolen by a 24-year-old man who woke her up and asked for the PIN number. When she refused to give him the information, he punched her in the face. The woman was taken to the hospital. Later, cops found the perp with the debit card in his pocket and he was arrested.
