Between Tuesday, June 28 and Tuesday, July 5, the 72nd Precinct received reports of two assaults, one grand larceny and one attempted burglary. The 72nd Precinct serves Sunset Park, Greenwood Heights and South Park Slope.
WESTERN UNION SCAM
A 41-year-old woman was a victim of a heartless scam on Tuesday, June 28. According to cops, at around 3:15 p.m. that day, she was working at a factory near First Avenue and 32nd Street when she received a call on her cell phone from an unknown man. He told the victim that her son had been in a car accident, was hurt and would hold him in a basement unless she paid him money. The woman claims she then went to Western Union and sent $470 to an individual in fear for the safety of her son. She later found out that the son was never in danger.
COPS THWART BURGLARY
Cops stopped a burglar in his tracks on Tuesday, June 28 at around 5 p.m. The perp tried to break into the apartment of a 38-year-old woman on Seventh Avenue and 44th Street. Cops say that, during the attempt, the perp broke the screen window, opened the interior window and attempted to enter the basement, but was arrested by police.
TACO BELL RUNG
According to cops, on Tuesday, July 5 at around 1:30 a.m., a 34-year-man was working in his taco truck parked at 54th Street and Fifth Avenue when a man, described by the victim as a 26-year-old Hispanic man, tried to enter the truck, then punched him in face. When the victim attempted to push the perp, cop say, he hit him in the face with a cell phone, resulting in bruising on the right side of his face.
