Coney’s Cones of Coney Island is serving up a cool way to celebrate National Ice Cream Day with its second annual Flavor Creation Contest.
Through Wednesday, July 27, dessert connoisseurs of all ages are invited to submit their most creative flavor combinations to Luna Park’s Facebook page for a chance to become one of the featured authentic Italian gelato flavors.
Last year’s winner, 28-year-old mother of two Arianne Elshawarby, proposed what would become one of the most popular gelato flavors offered, Chocolate Macaroon, an enticing combination of almond, chocolate chip, chocolate and coconut.
“We’re way beyond vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of flavors and flavor combinations. We’re looking to capitalize on the inventiveness of our customers, showcasing the freshness and authenticity of Coney’s Cones hand-crafted gelato,” said Brian Williams, general manager of CAI Foods. “Here’s the perfect chance for gelato lovers to put their culinary creativity to the test.”
A judge will pick 10 potential flavors to be voted on by the public from Saturday, July 30 through Friday, August 5. The winning flavor, the one which received the most votes, is to be announced on August 8 and will later join the menu.
