MCU Celebrates 100th Birthday at Coney Island Boardwalk

Coney Islanders who braved the heat helped MCU celebrate its 100th birthday at the MCU Centennial Day celebration on the Coney Island Boardwalk on Friday, July 15.

The celebration, which was open to the public, featured live music and sideshow performances, carnival games, an interactive photo booth and vendors to help wish MCU a happy birthday.

“Despite the heat, it was great to see people and beach-goers stop by and enjoy themselves,” said Mike Mattone, assistant vice president of public relations at MCU, who said the organization had decided on an old-fashioned circus party, with performances from a sword swallower and contortionists.

“Because we’ve been around since 1916, we wanted to bring an old-fashioned Coney Island feel to the Boardwalk,” said Mattone.

Municipal Credit Union (MCU) first opened its doors on October 15, 1916 in Manhattan’s Municipal Building and has become the oldest credit union in New York State, serving more than 400,000 members.
