Neighbors react to weekend stabbing on Gelston Avenue

Neighbors are still shocked by the recent stabbing that led to the death of a Bay Ridge resident on Gelston Avenue on Friday, July 22.

Gregorio Arambulo, 61, was charged with Murder in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of Weapon in the stabbing death of 56-year-old Pedro Reyes.

“There are always people using the courts and playing basketball during the summertime. I just thought someone got hurt,” said a local neighbor.

According to a source familiar with the incident, Reyes was stabbed with a kitchen knife during a family dispute. The longtime neighbor, who lives a block down from 120 Gelston Avenue where the incident took place, recalls seeing many police cars near P.S./I.S. 104.

He said he was shocked that something like this would even happen in Bay Ridge, let alone on the block he lives on.

“I’ve lived here for 20 years. It’s a very quiet block,” said the neighbor.
