Safe Summer Campaign kicks off in Coney

Kicking off July in a fun and safe way, this year’s Safe Summer Campaign in Coney Island was a carnival-style good time for all in the community.

Packed with free food and games, the all-day event (that took place on Neptune Avenue along West 29th and 30th Streets) was a reminder to keep it fun, but, more importantly, safe throughout the summer months.

“Beautiful event made up of beautiful people in a beautiful neighborhood,” said Councilmember Mark Treyger. “Kudos Pam Harris, Diane J. Savino, Dilia Schack, Joann Eisner Weiss, Eddie Mark, Sheila Smalls, Miriam Padilla, Lakeisha Bowers, Tasheen Knight Vic-Scar Scabano Quinones, Joe Corace, Barbara Santonas, Lauretta Brumfield, Sheila Boyd, Peggy Jung, the 60th Precinct, the Alliance for Coney Island, BP Adams, Kiwanis, and so many others that helped make today a success.”

“The youth were amazing,” said Assemblymember Pamela Harris. “They just want the violence to stop. We will continue our Safe Summer Campaign.”

The corresponding streets were closed off to traffic and the event provided free hot dogs, burgers and Italian ices to all who attended.

The event was sponsored by Senator Diane Savino, Councilmember Mark Treyger, Assemblymember Pamela Harris, Borough President Eric Adams, and Congressmember Hakeem Jefferies.
