Peace encouraged through arts at Summer Stroll

The Art Room (8710 3rd Avenue), a fine arts school for children, is bringing its mission of self-expression and imagination to the masses with a community art project at Third Avenue’s Summer Stroll.

The Bay Ridge art school, founded by Leigh Holliday Brannan, was designed for children ages three and up to enjoy educational, visceral and therapeutic fun. The students are encouraged to enrich their imaginations, express themselves and build self-esteem, all while learning the significance of perseverance and confidence.

“Our classes focus on the fundamentals of fine arts. Your child will paint, laugh, draw, dream, sculpt and more. We focus on process over product and FUN over all!” said Brannan.

Inspired by the world-renowned, polka dot-obsessed Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, the Art Room created a giant peace sign and is inviting Summer Strollers to contribute to the work by placing a dot inside of the collaboration with the community, cleverly named the “Community Art Peace.”

Bay Ridge Avenue to 80th Street will be closed off to traffic for the next Summer Stroll event on Friday, August 5.
