Jose Reyes slated to play three games in Brooklyn during rehab stint

As Jose Reyes inches closer to rejoining the Mets after a stay on the disabled list, the infielder is scheduled to play for the Brooklyn Cyclones for the team’s next three games.

Reyes was signed by the Amazin’s for much-needed speed, offense and help in the infield after the team’s playoff chances have been beset by injuries.

After playing 16 games and hitting .239 with four doubles, three homers, a .289 on-base percentage and eight RBIs, Reyes was sidelined by a left oblique strain.

This is the third time in his career that Reyes will play for the Cyclones during a rehab assignment. He is expected to start Thursday, August 11 against the Vermont Lake Monsters at 7 p.m., and Friday, August 12 and Saturday, August 13 against the West Virginia Black Bears, at 7 p.m. and 6 p.m. respectively.

In addition, fans will be treated to several promotions. On Thursday, August 11, the first 2,500 fans will receive a Cyclones jersey inspired by the 1986 Mets design. Former Mets closer Jesse Orosco, who struck out the final batter of the 1986 World Series, will also be in attendance.

Military Appreciation Night will be held during Friday’s game along with a 30th Anniversary celebration of “Top Gun.”

At Sunday’s game, fans will receive a stein. Both Friday and Saturday’s games will have post-game fireworks.
