Our 7 favorite creations from last year’s Coney Island Sand Sculpting Contest

With the 26th Annual Coney Island Sand Sculpting Contest returning to the beach once again on Saturday, August 20 between noon and 4 p.m., we’ve compiled some of our favorite sculptures from last year’s contest.

Just like last year’s contest, which attracted more than 10,000 attendees, this year’s contest will surely attract some of the public’s best amateur and semi-professional sand artists in the borough and beyond. The contest will take place on the Boardwalk between West 10th and West 12th Street, with winners to be announce at 4 p.m.

Check out some of the sculptures built during last year’s event below.

If you’re planning on heading to the Boardwalk to enjoy the sculptures, make sure also to check out the first annual Coney Island Busker Fest at Surf and Stillwell Avenues. The festival will also take place on August 20, from 12:30 to 7 p.m. and feature some of the best street entertainers in the business. The event is free, but buskers will graciously accept tips.
