A bomb scare on a busy Bay Ridge strip on Thursday, September 29 turned out to be a false alarm, much to residents’ relief.
According to authorities, a suspicious suitcase left near the corner of 84th Street and Third Avenue led to a thorough investigation by officers from the 68th Precinct just after 5 p.m. The medium-sized brown luggage — which a police source told this paper turned out to be a “suitcase with clothes and a brand new cooking pot” inside — was examined and deemed safe shortly after it was reported.
News of the scare traveled fast on social media, giving many residents the mistaken impression that the luggage contained a pressure cooker of sorts.
“It was left by accident,” said the source, who added that the suitcase’s owner was “completely cooperative.”
