Crazed Bay Ridge carjacker stopped before fleeing the scene with woman in passenger seat

It was a case of musical cars as a would-be car thief was apprehended by police officers and a passerby before he could drive away in a stolen car with a person inside last week.

According to cops, the 32-year-old man was driving a stolen car eastbound at 77th Street and Fifth Avenue in Bay Ridge on Tuesday, September 13 at around 4:25 p.m. when he recklessly struck a parked car and drove onto a crowded sidewalk.

Police say the man then got out of the car and, following a brief foot pursuit, got into another parked car nearby, which had the keys in the ignition and a 48-year-old woman in the passenger seat.

As the woman attempted to stop the man from driving off, he pushed her away. Though, before he could flee the scene in the vehicle, a cop and a 21-year-old man who happened to be nearby were able to stop him.

The man was arrested at the scene. No one was injured.
