Man, 72, pronounced dead after fatal Belt Parkway car crash

A 72-year-old man has died after being found unconscious and unresponsive behind the wheel of his Lincoln Town Car on Friday, October 14 after cops were called to the scene of an accident on the Belt Parkway at around 9:13 p.m.

According to police, the senior had suffered a “medical episode” behind the wheel. The NYPD’s Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that the 72-year-old, identified as Mohammad Ejaz Rana of Staten Island, was traveling westbound on the Belt Parkway in the left lane approaching Pershing Loop, when he “suffered a medical condition, decreased speed, and struck the center median guard rail.”

EMS responded to the scene and transported the man to NYU Lutheran Medical Center, where four days later, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on Tuesday, October 18.

The 72-year-old’s family has been notified and no other drivers or vehicles were injured or affected in the October 14 crash.
