Third Avenue grocery store employee catches would-be thief

A grocery store at Third Avenue and 86th Street in Bay Ridge was nearly robbed of one of its cash registers on Monday, October 3, when a man entered the shop and grabbed it.

When a store employee, a 45-year-old man, tried to stop the perp (said by cops to be in his 40’s), the crook punched him in the head. As he ran out of the store, the man threw the cash register in the back window of his station wagon. However, the employee pursued the thief and took the cash register back before the culprit fled the scene eastbound on 86th Street.

The incident occurred at around 8:15 a.m.

Hours earlier, a bar at 93rd Street and Third Avenue was burglarized when an unknown perp broke the glass of the business’ front door, walked in and successfully stole a cash register. However, the crook came up empty handed as the registered — worth around $300 — was empty.
