Sunset Park Bed Bath & Beyond coming this holiday season

Good things will come to those who wait in Sunset.

While originally slated to open early this fall, Beyond at Liberty View Industrial Plaza will officially open its doors as early as late November, just in time for the holiday season. Not only will the iconic Sunset location include Bed Bath & Beyond, but several other shops and venues.

“There are a lot of moving parts putting in the family brands of Bed Bath & Beyond stores so we look to open at the very end of November or the beginning of December,” said Barry Feld, chief executive officer of Cost Plus World Market, who has been working on the Beyond at Liberty project for several years. “It’s right around the corner. It’s a special project because it is in Brooklyn.”

Although the announcement was made in early 2015, the estimated date of completion kept getting pushed back. “It’s a pretty complex project because the building is an historic landmark and was built a long time ago,” Feld added. “We worked hard to keep the look and integrity of the building. Opening the store is the simple part. Keeping brick walls, floors and columns, and maintaining the feel as we modernize it, is the hard part.”

Shoppers during the holiday season and beyond shouldn’t expect just a standard shopping center. Not only will the venue include a flagship Bed Bath & Beyond store but also the Face Values store buybuy BABY, and Brooklyn’s first Cost Plus World Market, which features original and handcrafted items.

“We will have all the elements in one exciting shopping venue,” Feld said. “But we are also trying to blend an entertainment, eating and shopping venue so locals have the best of both worlds, regardless of lifestyle. If you have newborns, we have the buybuy BABY store. If folks are looking for significant home and beauty products at extra values, they can get it at Face Values.”

The area’s restaurants will also play a significant role. “If you’re making local Brooklyn products, you’ll have this outlet to sell products,” added Feld, who says that locals will benefit from the area. “In addition, there will be full service restaurants that have food pods and mini restaurants that rotate in and out.”

An event theater  is also being created where celebrity chefs will come and have cooking demos or classes working with area schools, as well as concerts, art contests and more.

Many Sunset residents’ main concern is whether the new venue will benefit them from an employment standpoint. “It’s important to note that we have a priority to hire locally so the community does benefit,” Feld said.

Feld is excited that the wait to cut the ribbon is almost over. “Folks that live in Brooklyn really understand sophisticated retailing in the simplest form,” he said. “It’s a labor of love for us.”
