Cops say Bay Ridge carjacking was ‘targeted’ incident

According to a police source, the 62-year-old businessman who was carjacked and had more than $20,000 in cash stolen from him in Bay Ridge Monday morning appears to have been targeted by his thieves.

Cops say that on Monday, January 16, the man was thrown from his 2013 white Chevy near the corner of Senator Street and Fifth Avenue after two men in an olive green minivan pulled up and blocked him in at around 10:15 a.m. From there, police say, one of the suspects approached the driver’s side of the vehicle, threw the victim to the ground and sped away in the car while the other hit the gas in the green minivan.

The Chevy was found 12 blocks away, with the cash missing.

According to cops, the incident does not appear to be a random act as this is now the second time that the victim, an area businessman, has been robbed in less than two months.

Police are actively investigating the incident and an arrest is likely, said the source.

The victim was not seriously injured and refused medical attention at the scene, said cops.
