Girl Scouts’ debut new S’mores cookie in commemoration of special centennial

A happy anniversary, indeed.

In celebration of the organization’s 100th year of selling cookies, the Girl Scouts of Greater New York announced on Tuesday, January 3 a new commemorative cookie – the S’mores™ – which will pay tribute to the group’s storied past.

“S’mores are a staple of the camping experience, and the new cookie variety combines that tradition of Girl Scouting with the iconic Girl Scout Cookie Program,” said GSGNY CEO Barbara Murphy-Warrington. “For the past 100 years, selling cookies has given Girl Scouts life-long skills and helped them build confidence in their abilities.”

The new treat – a s’mores-inspired crunchy graham sandwich cookie with creamy chocolate and marshmallow-y filling – recognizes the Girl Scouts’ long history of making and enjoying s’mores in the outdoors, an activity which was popularized by Girl Scouts as early as the 1920s.

In fact, the organization was one of the first to publish the iconic recipe under the name “Some More” in a 1925 issue of Girl Scout Leader magazine and, then, as “somemores” in an official 1927 Girl Scout publication.

The S’mores™ is now available for sale by local New York City Girl Scout troops, and, seeing as the Girl Scout Cookie Program is currently the largest girl-led business and entrepreneurship program in the world, it shouldn’t be too hard to get your hands on a box (or two).
