Cops say an elderly woman living near 16th Avenue and 85th Street was tricked out of $6,000 late last month.
According to police, the victim — a 76-year-old woman — was duped after she received a phone call from a perp pretending to be her son claiming to be in trouble. Reports say that, at around 9 a.m. on Thursday, March 23, the perp called posing as her son and told her that he had been in a car accident and had been arrested.
Cops say a second individual on the phone then pretended to be a lawyer, told her that the money should be deposited to a bank account and warned her not to tell anyone. The woman did as instructed and lost the money.
The account the money was deposited to is located in Florida.
