Generally Speaking: Council top awards to go to Aidala and Sacco

Bay Ridge Community Council (BRCC) President Ralph Succar has announced the civic group’s Civic Award Committee has selected famed attorney Arthur Aidala and civic leader Ilene Sacco to receive the council’s 2017 prestigious civic awards.

Aidala, a local resident, former Kings County District Attorney and now President of his own law firm is the past President of the Brooklyn Bar Association, and a former president of the Columbian Lawyers Association.

Sacco, also a member of the bar, is a past president of the BRCC, more recently has been at the helm of the 68th Precinct Community Council, and is the treasurer of the Ragamuffin Parade Committee.

The civic awards will be bestowed on the honorees at the 66th annual anniversary dinner dance of the BRCC, on June 1 at 7 p.m., at the Rex Manor Catering Hall, 1100 60th Street.

At its monthly meeting on Wednesday, April 19, the Bay Ridge Historical Society will have its new First Vice President Henry Stewart, a local historian and deputy editor of Opera News Magazine, give a presentation on the epic history of the once Shore Road-based Crescent Athletic Club.

It is now the site of Fort Hamilton High School, which, incidentally, Stewart graduated from. During its heyday, it was known as the country club of the rich and famous. In addition to the main building, the club had a large, ornate boathouse on the Narrows across from the club.

The program, which starts at 7:30 p.m., at the Shore Hill Neighborhood Center, on 91st Street between Colonial Road and Shore Road, is open to the general public.
