Calling all artists.
Congressmember Dan Donovan, who represents Staten Island as well as a swathe of South Brooklyn that includes Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights, has announced that his district offices in both New Dorp and Dyker will be accepting submissions for the 2017 Congressional Art Competition.
The contest, open to high school students across the country, offers young creators the opportunity to showcase their artistic talents. One winning submission from each congressional district will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.
According to Donovan’s office, students may submit original paintings, drawings, collages, photographs, computer generated art or a combination thereof.
“The creativity and talent of our Staten Island and South Brooklyn high school students never ceases to amaze me,” said Donovan. “Each piece, whether a photo, painting, or pencil sketch, highlights the unique perspectives and stories of student artists in our community, and I can’t wait to see this year’s entries.”
Interested students must begin their pieces immediately and register online by May 2 at Donovan.house.gov/art-competition. Submissions are due by the evening of May 9, when the pol will host an art show with participants and their families at the College of Staten Island.
There, judges will review submissions and determine a winner by the end of the night.
