20-year-old shot in Dyker Heights, two suspects arrested for attempted murder

A 20-year-old man was shot in Dyker Heights on Tuesday, May 9 and two suspects have been arrested.

According to police, the victim was shot in the cheek on Bay Ridge Avenue between 12th and 13th Avenues at approximately 2:08 p.m. that afternoon after, cops say, two suspects — 17-year-olds Jeff Dmeza and Armani Serrano — approached him.

The location of the shooting is just across the street from P.S. 176, The Ovington School, which reportedly went into lockdown shortly after shots rang out.

Cops say the victim was shot one time before the suspects fled the scene. Shortly after, cops from the 68th Precinct apprehended the two, who were found inside a supermarket at Eighth Avenue and 63rd Street. A firearm was also recovered inside of the location.

Police formally arrested the two alleged perps from Surf Avenue a day later. Dmeza was charged with attempted murder, while Serrano was charged with attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

The victim, who has yet to be identified, was rushed to Maimonides Medical Center and is listed in serious condition.
