Duo of burglars loot Sunset Park businesses for over $10,000

A pair of crooks is behind a string of burglaries reported in Sunset Park throughout the last month, according to the NYPD.

The duo began their spree on Tuesday, May 30 at around 4:30 a.m., with one of the perps forcing open the basement door of Hot Space (774 51st Street) but fleeing empty-handed.

On Monday, June 3, the same individual broke the security gate of DCPLZZ Seafood (770 59th Street) at around 4:25 a.m. and walked through an unlocked door, eventually removing $2,000 in cash from the register and beer from a refrigerator.

On Thursday, June 8, the two attempted to enter Wellcare Adult Day Care Inc. (5515 Seventh Avenue). As one of the perps tried to force the door open with a hard object, another served as a lookout. The two were not able to gain entry and fled empty-handed.

Just minutes after that attempt, the perps attempted to break the electronic front gate and front door of Happy Family Grocery Inc. (5402B Seventh Avenue), but fled empty-handed once again.

On Sunday, June 11, at around 4:00 a.m., the two succeeded in breaking the front gate of Hotpot (811 53rd Street) and entering the restaurant. As one of the perps took $8,000 in cash from the register, the other served as a lookout.

In their latest attempt, the two broke the kitchen door of Mr. Q’s (5302A Eighth Avenue) on Tuesday, June 20, removing $2,900 in cash from the register, beer and an iPad mini.

One of the individuals is described as a male with dark skin, wearing red sneakers and a hooded sweatshirt. The lookout is described as a female, wearing a duffel bag on her shoulder and her hair in a bun.
