Perky summer style debuts at City Point

With walls highlighted distinctively with color-blocked Farrow & Ball paints, a pair of swings hanging nonchalantly from an overhead grid filled with cascading plants, and an undulating tile counter dividing the space, you might be forgiven for thinking that the Domino Pop-Up Shop at City Point in Downtown Brooklyn was going to be there long-term.

In fact, after a kick-off party to benefit the Prospect Park Alliance on Thursday, June 1 hosted by renowned actress Maggie Gyllenhaal, herself a Brooklyn resident, the summer-themed store — curated to feature many Brooklyn products that reflect Domino Magazine’s particularly sleek chic style, the shop, which also includes an Illy Caffé, will only remain set up for three weekends — that of June 2 through 4, just past, plus June 9 through 11 and June 16 through 18.

Nonetheless, for local residents who enjoy decorating their homes and entertaining, that may be just long enough to pick up what Domino’s Elaina Sullivan and Jenna McMahon describe as “everything you need to have the best summer ever,” whether it be beach towels by Dusen Dusen, Bees Knees Meyer Lemon Honey or Recreation Center’s earthy, elegant grid pitcher.

Indeed, according to Sullivan and McMahon, who were on hand before the party to introduce the pop-up shop to the press, about 30 percent of the merchandise in the light-hearted store has roots in the borough, fulfilling the store’s theme of “by Brooklyn, for Brooklyn.”

“Brooklyn is such an important design community,” said Nathan Coyle, CEO of Domino. “City Point has created a spectacular marketplace anchored in a locale that’s a shopping destination for many Domino devotees. We love inventive ways to connect with our fans and City Point offered the perfect environment for that.”

The pop-up shop is located at 445 Albee Square West. Its hours are 11 a.m. through 8 p.m.
