Ridgeites came out in droves on Friday, July 21 to celebrate the second iteration of the Sixth Annual Summer Stroll, hosted by the Merchants of Third Avenue.
Beginning at 6:30 p.m., thousands of revelers poured into Third Avenue between 68th Street and 80th Street to enjoy the festivities, which included live entertainment, artists, food, outdoor seating and plenty of room to stroll. Despite the massive crowd, the event’s community atmosphere was still in full effect.
“It was really a block party-like atmosphere,” said Robert Howe, president of the Merchants of Third Avenue. “People who hadn’t seen each other in a while were bumping into each other in front of various merchants and restaurants or while checking out artists with paintings and photographs.”
Unlike the first Stroll on Friday, July 14, attendance to the event was not hindered by inclement weather. Howe noted that the day’s clear skies and balmy temperatures made for the perfect strolling environment.
“The 14th was still very well attended, but this Stroll definitely had a larger crowd due to the nice weather,” said Howe. “A little breeze kicked up and it was perfect.”
Summer Stroll will take place again between 80th Street and 90th Street on Friday, August 4, and between 68th Street and 80th Street on Friday, August 11. For more information, visit summerstrollon3rd.com.
