Thud! Another bean bag thumped against the cornhole board, and chatter along Third Avenue rose to a dull roar as the sun began to set on the third Summer Stroll along the Bay Ridge portion of the strip on Friday, August 4.
From schoolkids to elected officials, pedestrians plied the thoroughfare between 80th and 90th Streets in search of entertainment, outdoor dining and the like, with costumed characters and clowns on hand to charm the children, as did did up-and-coming author of the latest book in the Ages of Oz series. Gabriel Gale, who was outside the Bookmark Shoppe for the event, accompanied by a character from the series on stilts.
But it wasn’t all fun and games. Tables set up by the FDNY and the NYPD were meant to inform passersby with fire safety and crime prevention tips.
The event is organized by the Merchants of Third Avenue, under the auspices of the city’s Department of Transportation. Two Summer Strolls were held in July, and the final one for 2017 will take place on Friday, August 11 from 6 to 10:30 p.m., rain or shine, along Third Avenue, between 68th and 80th Streets.
