Picking a family-friendly Ridge dining spot is child’s play

It’s almost back-to-school time for local youngsters. That said, it’s almost crunch time for many working parents. Sometimes, eating out after school with the kids just comes naturally and, thankfully, in a small town like Bay Ridge, there are plenty of establishments that make dining out fun for the whole family.

For dinner and a show, a family might look towards Arirang Hibachi Steakhouse and Sushi Bar (8812 Fourth Avenue) for either their dinner or lunch reservations. The chefs cook your food right in front of you, hibachi style, and provide playful entertainment whilst you and your kids dine. Plus, it’s reasonably priced (with large portions fit for doggie bags).

If you’re looking for more of a local diner feel, try either Stewart’s (8518 Fifth Avenue) or Anopoli Ice Cream Parlor & Family Restaurant (6920 Third Avenue). Though at home on opposite sides of the nabe, both traditional diners have an old-school feel (Stewart’s keeping intact much of the interior and history deriving from its former iteration, Hinsch’s, and Anopoli never really changing its appearance much to begin with). Plus, both joints serve up their own housemade ice creams. What kids will say no to that?

If you’re looking for a quicker, sweet-tooth fix, try bringing the kids to Little Cupcake Bakeshop (9102 Third Avenue) for one of its mouthwatering desserts. From cupcakes and brownies to palm-sized pies and – you guessed it – even ice cream, there’s something for everyone at Little Cupcake (parents, too.)

Finally, a list of family-friendly spots in the nabe would be incomplete without mention of one of the hood’s newest establishments – The Coop.

The off-the-corner coffee shop (located at 9504 Fourth Avenue) is less than two years old, and comes complete with its own playroom in the back for kids. Plus, the Coop serves up way more than coffee. As a matter of fact, a family can have a full meal at the Coop (and mom and dad can even choose from a select arrangement of wines and beers.) It’s a win-win for everyone.
