Pretend police officer robs man on 70th and New Utrecht Avenue

Cops say a 26-year-old man and his passenger were robbed while sitting in a car near 70th Street and New Utrecht Avenue by a 25-year-old man impersonating a police officer.

According to reports, at around 4:40 a.m. on Thursday, August 3, the perp approached the car, knocked on it and said, “Police.”

After he displayed a gold shield, the robber told the victim that he wasn’t supposed to be there, asked if he had any drugs in the car and asked the two men to exit the car. After frisking them, the perp asked the driver for his ID. When the victim took his wallet out, the perp saw his money and demanded it. He took around $800 and the ID, got into his car and fled westbound on 70th Street.

No arrests have been made.
