Show to go on for Wingate and Coney Island concert series

Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams announced earlier this month that, despite previous reports that the summer concert series in Wingate Park in East Flatbush and at the Ford Amphitheater in Coney Island would be canned for the season, the shows will instead go on, a little later than expected.

The free Wingate Concert Series began on Monday, August 7 with the Coney Island Concert Series scheduled to debut in early September.

“In response to the significant interest we all share in maintaining and expanding the range of free summer entertainment opportunities in our borough, I have been working aggressively to identify and secure new organizers that can deliver great performances at Ford Amphitheater and Wingate Park this season, as well as do even better in the years ahead,” said Adams, thanking organizers Globe Star Media-N-Entertainment and City Park Foundation, respectively, for their hard work on expedited timelines to ensure the continuation of both series.

“There is a rich legacy of memories that have been made at free summer concerts in Wingate Park,” said Dan Otero, president of Globe Star Media-N-Entertainment. “Globe Star Media-N-Entertainment is proud to be part of the newest chapter of this legacy as organizer of the 2017 Wingate Concert Series. We look forward to welcoming thousands of music lovers in and around central Brooklyn to these exciting shows.”

Councilmember Mark Treyger, who serves as a host for the Coney Island iteration, joined Adams – a host for both – in advocating for both series’ return, working hard with the Beep to secure the remaining funding necessary following a commitment made by Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito.

“I am proud to have advocated for the return of one of Coney Island’s most beloved traditions: free public concerts,” he said.
