The 36th Annual Great Irish Fair of New York returns to Coney

It’s that time of the year again, as the 36th Annual Great Irish Fair of New York will draw crowds to enjoy Irish culture at the Ford Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk, 3052 West 21st Street.

Hosted by the Irish American Building Society (IABS), the event is family-friendly with vendors, dancing, food, Irish goods, activities and performances. Music by Unforgettable Fire, the Canny Brothers, Derek Warfield, Bagatelle, Andy Cooney and more will be featured.

Last year, the event was a success as it was held at Coney for the first time. Chairperson Martin Cottingham said crowds spanned close to 3,000 people throughout the course of the day.

“We’re very happy with that given that it’s our first year [at the venue] and obviously there was some confusion on the front end,” said Cottingham last year. “It’s just great to be able to bring that event into a world-class venue like the Amphitheater. It’s a state-of-the-art facility with a roof. The volume was incredible. The bands sounded outstanding, and now, just to have a routine that people know where we are going to be going forward is a relief.”

The event will be held on Saturday, September 16 with Mass at 10 a.m., a ceremony at 11 a.m. and live performances 12 p.m. Tickets are $20. Children under 14-years-old receive free admission. For more information, visit www.iabsny.com/great-irish-fair.
