A long-held Bay Ridge tradition has finally been announced, much to the delight of the nabe’s foodies.
The annual Taste of the Ridge, which is normally held in April at the Aldo Bruschi Auditorium of St. Patrick’s Catholic Academy (401 97th Street), was postponed earlier this year. It will instead be hosted on Sunday, October 1, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
“I believe [the delay] is because there were so many things going on this time of the year that they felt the need to move it to October,” former Monsignor at St. Pat’s Jamie Gigantiello, who founded the event, told this paper in April. “This is the 21st year we are doing it so it’s always been a hot event.”
The all-you-can-eat event was the brainchild of Gigantiello, then a parish priest at St. Patrick’s and a trained chef, and chef Donald Penza, who went to school at St. Patrick’s, and it has grown since its inception, adding new participants each year to the roster of tried-and true favorites.
The yearly afternoon of food and fun raises funds for both the school and the parish.
Back at the event this year is beer and wine tasting, along with up to 55 local eateries. Advance tickets (purchased before September 28) are $20 person. Tickets can also be purchased at the door for $25.
In addition, anyone interested in getting involved and volunteering should stop by the St. Pat’s Rectory, located on the west side of the church (9511 Fourth Avenue) on Monday, September 18 at 7 p.m. for a meeting with Father Greg McIlhenney.
“Taste of the Ridge is something that has been a tradition at St. Patrick’s for a long time and we are looking forward to it again this year,” said Monsignor Michael Hardiman.
