Cops searching for perp who made $20,000 worth of fraudulent charges in Bensonhurst man’s name

Authorities are looking to identify a scam artist who stole a Bensonhurst resident’s identity, using the victim’s name to open up a slew of credit card accounts and charging some $20,000 worth of purchases to them.

According to reports, the victim, a 48-year-old man who lives near West First Street and 65th Street, learned about the fraud on Wednesday, August 17 from a credit card company employee.

All but two of the fraudulently obtained credit cards were canceled. Of the two, one card was used by the unknown crook on Saturday, July 1 inside a Cartier store to buy merchandise worth over $13,000.

On Tuesday, August 1, the second card was used inside an Apple Store on Bedford Avenue to purchase more than $7,000 worth of merchandise.

The perp is described as a dark skinned male with a beard. He was last seen wearing a checkered blue and white long-sleeved shirt, dark-colored pants and black shoes.
