Fire in Dyker Heights building kills man and woman, injures others

A fire in a Dyker Heights building has left two dead and several other people injured.

According to the FDNY, the fire occurred inside the three-story mixed-use building at 11th Avenue and 67th Street at around 7 a.m. on Thursday, November 9, with fire on all three floors. Twenty five FDNY units and 106 fire personnel were quickly on the scene.

Authorities added that a 58-year-old man and a 56-year-old women were discovered unconscious in the third floor apartment. According to the FDNY, the two were DOA.


In addition, a four-year-old girl and a three-month-old boy were injured and  rushed to Maimonides Medical Center for treatment for smoke inhalation. They are listed in stable condition, along with a 31-year-old man and a 30-year-old women.

Three firefighters were also injured while responding to the fire, but are listed in stable condition as well.

The FDNY listed the fire as under control at around 8:16 a.m.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by fire marshals.
