PHOTOS: Annual Haunted Walk at Owl’s Head thrills once again

It was a graveyard smash.

Bay Ridge’s own Owl’s Head Park was once again transformed into a haunted excursion on Tuesday, October 31 at the 2017 Haunted Walk and Fairytale Forest – a neighborhood tradition local children and their families have braved for more than two decades.

Now in its 22nd year, the event – which started at 3:30 p.m. when many of the trick-or-treaters got out of school – includes a haunted walk for the bravest of Ridgeites as well as fairytale forest tours for the youngsters, all of which is topped off with games, prizes and – of course – a costume contest for all who attend.

The yearly fright-fest is hosted by State Senator Marty Golden in conjunction with the Southwest Brooklyn Parks Task Force, CERT1NYC and the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation.

“It was a great night celebrating Halloween at the annual Bay Ridge Haunted Halloween Walk and Fairy Tale Forest event,” said Golden, adding that it was “heartwarming to see all the smiles on the approximately 4,000 faces of parents and children who attended.”

Each year, over 150 volunteers donate their time and talents to bring the walk – free for all besides a suggested $1 donation – to life. Golden gave special thanks to organizers Chip Cafiero, Albert Corhan, Cary Spickler, Tony Travis and Doreen Dellis as well as a long list of volunteers and sponsors including Linda Allegretti, Andre Alves, Bobby Bourne, Richard Buttacavoli, Christopher Deliso, John Lambert, Melissa Cafiero, Frank Manfredonio, Mike McKnight, Rose Rizzo, Iphigenia Romanos, Sonia Valentin, Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn, BenBay Kiwanis, Bravo and more.

The event is lauded locally as a “safe alternative to trick-or-treating.”

“The costumes were fantastic, the rides were thrilling, the food was delicious and the Haunted Walk was the scariest in all of New York City,” Golden said.
