Downtown Brooklyn was lit with holiday cheer on Thursday, November 16 as the bustling neighborhood celebrated the first holiday lighting in the borough.
The first-ever Downtown Brooklyn Gets Lit: Holiday Lighting Party was held at Albee Square on Dekalb Avenue by the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership, in association with the Fulton Mall. The event – which featured a tree, menorah and street lighting, live music and special guest performances by local bands, rappers and dance studios – was an all-around festivus for everyone that started at 5 p.m.
Performers included DJ Mike Doelo, the Brooklyn United Music and Arts Program and Salsa Salsa Dance Studio.
Free food was provided by local vendors such as the famed Katz’ Delicatessen (which recently opened up shop within the nearby Dekalb Market) and Junior’s Cheesecake.
The event was followed by a salsa party at nearby City Point to the sounds of DJ Jun.
Sponsors included Century 21 and TD Bank.
