Search in progress for driver who reportedly drove off Bay Ridge pier

Emergency units are on the scene after witnesses reported seeing a car crash into the water off the 69th Street Veterans Memorial Pier in Bay Ridge at around 1 a.m. Monday morning.

According to multiple reports on social media, the incident has been deemed an all-hands-on-deck situation.

Reports further claim, however, that the FDNY is not currently deploying any divers into the harbor as the car has reportedly drifted too far towards the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge.

There are no further details available at this time.

This is a developing story. We will update as new information becomes available.

Update (2:09 a.m.): The NYPD Scuba Team is reportedly being requested to search for the victim in the harbor.

Update (8:33 a.m.): The vehicle — which witnesses told The New York Post might have been a black sedan, “maybe BMW” traveling a speed of “maybe 60-70” miles-per-hour through a maze of tables on the pier — has reportedly drifted even farther from shore.

Authorities will reportedly continue the search for its driver this morning. A body has not yet been recovered.

The investigation is ongoing.
