PHOTOS: Adelphi Academy celebrates at annual holiday tree lighting

Happy holidays, indeed.

On Tuesday, December 12, Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn, located at 8515 Ridge Boulevard, held its 12th annual holiday tree lighting. Members of the school community and friends of the academy were welcome to attend the free event, which featured hot cocoa, holiday cookies and live entertainment.

The lighting took place at 6:30 p.m. in the historic John Lockwood Auditorium Theatre and on the outside campus at Adelphi.

Each year, Adelphi hosts the Special Trees for Special Needs tree drive. The fundraiser, now in its fifth year, is an opportunity to support the school’s award-winning Project Succeed Program for College Bound Students with Special Needs by sponsoring a holiday tree.

All six-foot holiday trees come equipped with 300 white tree lights, a holiday tree stand and a personalized sponsorship sign – many of which are dedicated in memory of loved ones. All holiday trees are lit in conjunction with the school’s main tree.

Before the massive dual lighting, attendees were treated to festive holiday caroling courtesy of the Adelphi student chorus.
