A Christmas tradition remains strong.

State Senator Marty Golden hosted his second of a series of tree lightings on Friday, December 1 at Gravesend’s Lady Moody Square, Van Sicklen Street and Avenue U.

The annual holiday tradition featured students from I.S. 228 David A. Boody who sang Christmas carols throughout the evening, hot chocolate for all the attendees, a deejay, a visit from Santa Claus and of course, the tree lighting.

Golden was excited to be a part of the event.

I understand I have one of the top schools not only in my district but city and state of New York in David A. Boody IS 228,” he told the excited crowd as he also thanked the 62nd Precinct and the city Parks Department for helping host the festivities. “I want to thank each and every one of you and your families for coming out this evening and enjoying this festivity. We are remembering what Christmas is all about. Thank you for your blessed attendance tonight.”

He also praised the students in attendance.

“Look at all these great, articulate, intelligent young men and women who will grow to lead our great city, state and nation,” he said.

Days after the event, he described the meaning of the event in a statement.

“This has become a tradition in our neighborhoods,” said Golden.  “When those lights come on, out of the darkness, it represents our hopes for love, joy and peace, not only in our neighborhood, but throughout the world.”
