Suspect in Custody for Violent Christmas Home Invasion in Coney

A suspect is currently in custody in connection to a vicious Coney Island home invasion that landed an 88-year-old woman in the hospital on Christmas day.

According to authorities, 50-year-old Marc Malone has been arrested in connection to the incident, which occurred at around 6:45 a.m. on Dec. 25 inside an apartment near Surf Avenue and W. 25th St.

The suspect is said to have broken in through the woman’s “unsecured front door,” before forcing her into the bedroom, ransacking her property and assaulting her.

The man fled the scene after the woman was able to activate her emergency medical alert service — though, not without one last punch to the victim’s face.

The woman was taken to New York City’s Health + Hospitals/Coney Island where she was treated and released, though it has been reported that she will likely require surgery for a broken orbital bone.

On Fri., Dec. 28, Malone was charged with robbery, assault, burglary and criminal possession of stolen property.

Locals are already applauding the efforts of both the NYPD and the community.

“I’m awaiting additional details, but I want to thank the NYPD for their diligent work, especially PSA1,” wrote Councilmember Mark Treyger on social media. “And thank you to those who provided helpful information that led to his arrest.”

“Good work, NYPD,” commented a constituent.
