Borough Hall celebrates Year of the Pig

A festive Brooklyn Borough Hall, 209 Joralemon Street, welcomed in the Year of the Pig at its annual Lunar New Year celebration.

Held on Sat. Feb. 2, at 11 a.m., the event — sponsored by Borough President Eric Adams in conjunction with the Sino America New York Brooklyn Archway Association — kicked off the Year of the Pig with the Lunar New Year Cultural Temple Festival 2019. Among the highlights were giveaways, children’s activities and live cultural performances, including a rendition of the Lion Dance. The American Buddhist Confederation was in attendance.

Adams, who hosts a similar celebration each year, was happy to mark the important holiday in Brooklyn.

“I always enjoy ringing in the Lunar New Year at the People’s House. Our borough’s strength comes from our many diverse communities, and embracing our hyphens as Chinese-Americans, Korean-Americans, Vietnamese-Americans, or whatever they may be is what the Brooklyn experience is all about,” he said. “I wish everyone a joyous occasion to welcome Year of the Pig filled with peace, generosity and good fortune.”

Another Lunar New Year celebration will be held at Borough Hall on Fri., Feb. 15 at 6 p.m. For more information, visit www.brooklyn-usa.org/event.
