Police Beat: Police impersonator arrested for rape

The Police Impersonation Unit of the New York City Police Department’s Internal Affairs Bureau announced the arrest of Jason Forgetta, AKA Jason Torres, a Level 3 Sex Offender on Friday, August 1/ Forgetta is charged with Rape, Robbery and Criminal Impersonation of a Police Officer.

On Wednesday, July 30 at 2:18 a.m., the victim, a 26-year-old female, allegedly met Forgetta on the street in the Sunset Park area of Brooklyn and the two began talking. During the conversation, the suspect showed the victim a gold shield and identified himself as a police officer. The victim then invited him up to her room, and once there, Forgetta allegedly assaulted and raped her. He then removed the victim’s cell phone, money and pocketbook and fled the scene in a silver vehicle.

The victim was taken to an area hospital where she was treated for her injuries and was able to provide detectives with a detailed description of the suspect as well as the license plate of the vehicle he fled in. Using this description, Detective Marie Hale was able to conduct a photo viewing session with the victim in which the victim was able to identify the suspect.

Using the information from the ForgettaÂ’s past arrests, and computer checks on the vehicle, Detective Hale was able to ascertain several addresses that the suspect listed as residences, but that he apparently did not stay in permanently. However, his job address was discovered and on Friday, August 1, around 9:30 a.m., officers from the Police Impersonations Unit and Brooklyn Warrants arrested Forgetta at the intersection of 17th Avenue and 62nd Street.
