Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, suspect, 18-year old Robert Asa has been apprehended within the confines of the 81 Precinct.
According to cops, an 82-year woman was sweeping outside of her home within the 60th Precinct, which includes the shore-front neighborhoods of Coney Island and Brighton Beach, at around 1:40 a.m. on Monday, July 13 when Asa gained entry and hid out in her bedroom.
When the woman re-entered the residence, cops say, the suspect assaulted her and demanded money at knifepoint. When the woman did not have any cash to give him, authorities said, the suspect camped out in the apartment for several hours before forcibly raping the woman at around 4 a.m.
According to NYPD officials, Asa was arrested in Bedford-Stuyvesant early Friday, July 17. He has been charged with rape, robbery, assault, burglary, criminal sexual act, strangulation, unlawful imprisonment, endangering the Welfare of an Elderly Person, petit larceny, menacing, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of stolen property.
