Industry City holds first of three “Salsa Sunset Sundays”

Dancing the day away.

Industry City hosted the first of its three salsa dancing series, “Salsa Sunset Sundays” on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 19.

From 1-5 p.m., attendees gathered to the free event and enjoyed live music, dancing, family activities and a pop-up market of local businesses.

Los Cachimbos De Hoy, Willie Villegas’ Entre Amigos, and Williamsburg Salsa Orchestra made appearances during the event.

“Salsa Sunset Sundays was created in response to feedback from local residents, who have experienced what Industry City has to offer, and have asked us to enhance community programming,” said Director of Community Engagement at Industry City Cristal Rivera. “After a remarkable debut on Father’s Day, we are confident that attendance will continue to grow as the series continues this summer. Sunset Park is an active and vibrant neighborhood, and we’re happy to be a part of it.”

Willie Villegas of Willie Villegas Y Entre Amigos, who booked all of the talent for Salsa Sunset Sundays, declared the day a success. “Everyone there was dancing to the nostalgic sounds of Los Cachimbos de Hoy, who dedicated their music to Salsa Legend Ismael Rivera,” he said, adding that the next event should be equally as exciting. “We are featuring the Piel Canela Dancers and teaching the latest Salsa moves to spark up the dance floor. Our pop-up market will delight participants with Spanish food, as well as favorite cocktail drinks.”

Rivera added that the event is a growing effort to involve the community in various activities.

“It is our priority to directly connect local residents to the cultural, entertainment, educational, employment and entrepreneurship offerings at Industry City”, she added. “Our goal is to ensure that the industrial complex becomes an intricate part of the neighborhood for local residents to work, prosper and also come together to celebrate culture, community and family.”

The next Salsa Sunset Sundays are July 17 and August 21 at 1 p.m. at Industry City Courtyard 1 and 2, 220 36th Street.
