Boro Park rapist sentenced to 20 years in prison

A 30-year-old Brooklyn man was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Monday, July 24 for his part in the vicious attack on a woman in Boro Park.

Robert Hernandez was sentenced following his June 12 conviction on the charges of first-degree rape, first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary and second-degree assault.

On July 13, 2015, Hernandez and his co-defendant, Joel Lopez, 29, arrived at an apartment on 51st Street for a scheduled appointment with a 52-year-old sex worker, according to trial testimony. Upon entering the apartment, Hernandez pushed the woman to the floor, duct taped her hands, feet and mouth with the help of Lopez, and raped her on a bed while Lopez held the woman’s legs above her head. The defendants also stole two cellphones, a laptop and cash from the victim. Lopez pleaded guilty to first-degree burglary on April 19 and was sentenced to 12 years in prison on May 11.

In addition to his prison term, Hernandez was sentenced to 20 years of post-release supervision.
