Compassion highlighted as 62nd Precinct honors March Cops of the Month

Another pair of officers were dubbed Cops of the Month at the 62nd Precinct’s March monthly meeting, held for the first time at the Federation of Italian American Center, 8711 18th Avenue, on Tuesday, March 20.

March’s honors were all about compassion.

First honored was Police Officer Linda Buchelli who, on the evening of December 10, met with a woman inside the stationhouse who claimed that her ex-boyfriend was threatening her via text message, in some of which the ex went as far as to say he would send his people after or kill the victim.

Later that day, according to Captain Anthony Longobardi, the precinct’s commanding officer, the victim’s home went up in flames in a fire believed to have been started by her ex. “Without delay,” Lonobardi said, “Officer Buchelli went to [the ex’s] residence and arrested him.”

In addition, the captain said, Buchelli went even further, following up with the victim and her family with a home visit in February during which she brought gifts she bought “with her own money, out of the goodness of her heart to help the young children and family who lost everything inside their torched apartment just 15 days before Christmas.”

Buchelli’s outstanding act of kindness, Longobardi said, helped get the family through a hard time and serves as a testament to the compassion of the NYPD.

Also awarded at the March meeting was Police Office Eduard Nogol who, on February 27, conducted a follow-up home visit to a local woman who had been assaulted by her drug-addicted son after which the offender – who’d been wanted since October, 2017 – was successfully apprehended without incident.
